Production Planner

About the role

The Ian Mosey Group is a reputable and well-established family owned and operated business. The principal activities of Ian Mosey (Feed) Ltd, a subsidiary, is manufacturing superior quality and innovative animal feed from its mill in Coulton, near York and delivering to farms across the North of England. It has a large share of the UK market and has seen year on year growth.


Job Purpose and Impact:


  • Create,issue and control production plans to ensure order fulfillment on-time-in-full delivery
  • Monitor end to end production process, workflow and plans to ensure production meets order fulfillment OTIF
  • Ensure production plans are created in a cost-effective way that meets feed safety, health, safety, environment, and cost standards and suggest ways to optimise production planning and increase operational efficiency
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of bag raw materials, work-in-progress, and  finished product (all pack types, including out loading bins, flat stores, tote bins, tote bags, 25kg bags) and inventory management
  • Participate in a collaborative working model within the operations team
  • Provide daily administrative support to the operations team


Key Accountabilities:


  • Coordinate changes in plans to meet changing demands or resolve production issues
  • Provide first line support for queries regarding finished product availability
  • Utilise the bag material requirements planning (MRP) system to effectively plan and coordinate requirements, create and issue purchase orders and monitor the status to ensure on-time-in-full material delivery
  • Carryout hands on daily, weekly and monthly stock counts (all pack types), deal with any discrepancies
  • Participate in setting production planning and raw material requirements planning KPI targets
  • Maintain effective communication channels with cross functional departments, and the supply chain, including suppliers, nutritionists
  • On-call requirement


The Person:


We are looking for a candidate with the following essential skills:

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent
  • Previous experience (typically 2+ years) in production planning and/or supply chain management, preferably in the FMCG
  • Proficiency in using ERP / MRP systems, data analysis tools, and advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to foster collaboration
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines


It is desirable if the candidate also has the following skills:

  • Process improvement experience or knowledge of lean manufacturing
